WARNING: If you are currently taking the prescription drug Celebrex, you may be at risk for serious health problems including heart attack and stroke.

More than 27 million people have taken the prescription drug Celebrex, manufactured by Pfizer, since it was approved by the Food and Drug Administration on December 31, 1998. The drug is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory which is known as a Cox-2 inhibitor. Celebrex is widely used to treat arthritis pain, menstrual cramps, osteoarthritis, adult rheumatoid arthritis, inflammation, and other types of serious pain. The drug has also been used by patients who suffer from Adenomatous Polyposis to decrease the amount of polyps on the intestines.

Since Celebrex was released in 1998 there have been concerns regarding Celebrex because it has been associated with dangerous cardiovascular problems. The upside of Celebrex is that it does not damage stomachs like similar drugs.

Many reputable organizations, including the American Heart Association, have inquired as to whether or not using Celebrex places patients at an increased risk for a stroke, heart attack or blood clots. In fact, a government sponsored study (National Cancer Institute) showed that patients taking Celebrex had more than twice as many heart attacks as those people in the study who took a placebo.

If you have experienced any side effects while taking the drug Celebrex, you may be at risk for a variety of serious health problems. If you have suffered from any of the side effects listed below you should seek medical attention from your health care provider immediately:

  • Blackened stool
  • Chest pain
  • Curious or unexpected weight gain
  • Fatigue
